So I am one of the socially awkward teenagers who has fallen under the spell of "My Life as Liz".
For those of you who are unaware of 'My Life as Liz', it's about a girl who is not a typically preppy teen that you see portrayed on MTV, but rather a nerd who hangs out with other nerds who wants to get revenge on the typically preppy bitchy teenage girls who were her former best friends.
You can probably see the appeal to this show.
(Also all the nerdy guys Liz hangs out with now are hysterical, and one of them says Bangarang. Nothing gets better.)
As much as I hate to admit it, I love the show.
It's just like any reality show on MTV though, scripted. But apparently the only parts that are scripted are the parts where Liz is talking to the camera, otherwise it's all real.
Regardless of the 'real' factor, I find this show to be extremely ironic.
See Liz makes it a point to break out of the mold of typical cookie cutter teenagers. She wants people to be individuals, be themselves.
But at the same time, I have no doubt that kids are watching MLAL and they are thinking about how cool Liz's style is.
How cool it is that she collects comic books, hangs around with nerds, and does stuff normal people who have a reality show wouldn't do.
How much do you want to bet that they change some of how they look to look like Liz?
It's a huge cycle. Even if it's a show about a nonconformist, it turns into a show about someone everyone wants to be.
I think that's wrong.
Stop copying people.
Be yourself.
I'm not saying that comic books and how Liz dresses is bad. Lord knows that I love comic books and I'm a total nerd.
But I choose to do so because that's who I am.
If you want to be like that be like that, if you like how the people in the Hills dress and act. For all means go out and do it.
Just don't be a carbon copy of someone you see on TV.
That's not cool.
In other news MTV has offically dropped the "Music Television" part of their logo and changed it. Not completely changed it, but changed it enough.
And did I mention all my comic books together equal roughly $558.40.
I just love saying that. Jeezuz, that's awesome.
Jenni.
P.S. Let it be noted that all my comic books are in fact Batman comic books and the one that is worth the most is the 200th Smash Issue of Batman which explains the origin of Batman along with a cameo from the Joker. Worth: $440

Yes I belong to a comic book website. I've never been more proud in my life.
